Due to the prolonged COVID-19 state of emergency in Tokyo, I have not held any cooking event for almost three months. It is likely the situation will not improve until after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is over which will start in 3 weeks after a year of postponement. In Tokyo, restaurants must close by 8:00pm. Alcohol drinks cannot be served after 7:30pm. So, I spend more time listening to classical music, playing the viola, baroque viola and shamisen, and taking care of my humble vegetable and herb garden.
Nevertheless, I have posted a new cooking class in Japan Gastronomy Association’s Event Calendar. If the state of emergency is lifted, from late July I will coach cooking by using English recipe books. For the first few lessons, I plan to use America’s classic cooking books like “Joy of Cooking” and “New York Time’s Cook Book”. We will then explore recipes from a variety of sources including www.bonappetit, www.myrecipes, www.delscookingtwist and like. Please stay tuned!
